Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is planning a “complete redesign” for the MacBook Pro, expected to debut in 2026. Historically, Apple has revamped the MacBook Pro’s design every four years, but the upcoming 2025 release is anticipated to be a minor update with only an M5 chip upgrade. The major redesign, originally aimed for 2025, has reportedly been pushed to 2026 due to delays related to new display technology.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman explains that the next significant MacBook Pro overhaul will likely feature OLED displays—a feature Apple is testing on the upcoming M4 iPad Pro models. Additionally, the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to be “thinner.” While the initial Apple Silicon MacBook Pros were slightly thicker, this updated design seems to reverse that approach, hopefully without sacrificing key features.
Gurman also notes that the 2026 MacBook Pro could be powered by an M6 chip based on a 2nm process, delivering a substantial boost in both display tech and performance. For 2025, however, buyers can expect refreshed models with M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, though the upgrades will likely be limited to processing power rather than design changes.
