Relaunching of St. Maarten to Montserrat Route via WINAIR Announced by GoM

The Government of Montserrat has officially announced the relaunch of the Montserrat–St. Maarten air route, marking a significant advancement in the island’s regional connectivity and travel accessibility. The announcement was made during a press conference hosted at the ZJB Conference Room in Davy Hill.

The relaunch represents a key step in Government’s ongoing Access Strategy, aimed at strengthening travel links, supporting tourism growth, and providing residents and visitors with more reliable, convenient travel options through one of the Caribbean’s major international hubs.

The press conference featured a panel of senior government officials:
• Hon. Reuben T. Meade, Premier of Montserrat
• Mrs. Camille Thomas-Gerald, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Premier
• Mr. Ashley Lindsey, Access Coordinator
• Mr. Charles Thompson, Chief, Immigration Department

Premier Meade highlighted the strategic importance of the renewed route, noting that St. Maarten serves as a vital gateway for Montserrat’s diaspora and regional partners. He emphasized that the move aligns with Government’s commitment to improving access by air and sea while stimulating economic activity.

Permanent Secretary Camille Thomas-Gerald reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to efficient policy coordination and stakeholder engagement, noting that the relaunch follows months of technical planning, regulatory alignment, and operational discussions with service providers.

Access Coordinator Ashley Lindsey provided operational details regarding flight scheduling, passenger capacity, and future expansion possibilities. He stated that the new route is expected to enhance passenger movement, reduce travel times, and support emergency mobility when needed.

Chief of Immigration Charles Thompson outlined improvements in immigration processing to support the route, including updated protocols designed to facilitate smoother entry and exit for passengers traveling between Montserrat and St. Maarten.

The launch of this renewed service underscores the Government’s commitment to ensuring that Montserrat remains accessible, connected, and positioned for continued economic and social development.
