Lady Soufriere

Soufriere Montserrat

placeholder

Lady Soufriere—strong and majestic
Sitting quietly and watching your children
Those who left, those who stayed.
Those who died, those who weep.
Some lost in the wilderness
Trying to recapture a paradise we once knew as home.

Lady Soufriere – you are
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing, captivating, and alluring
We watched your fire roaring in the night skies.
How could we ever forget you 30 years later
When your features are still imprinted in our minds.

You heard our screams, our shouts, and cries.
As we weep for the loss of the place, we once called Plymouth.
Your fire roared down the hills.
As the ash bellowed into the skies
Feeling lost and abandoned
Your children feared you.
Never knowing Lady Soufriere
If once again, you will change the landscape of our villages and town

You shared your ash with all the islands in the Caribbean Sea
From Antigua to Venezuela and Anguilla to Puerto Rico
You gave your ash to fertilize their land.
Where food can now grow in abundance
And for that we give thanks.

Co-exist we must agree Lady Soufriere
Knowing you are the center of our existence.
How do we move forward Dear Lady Soufriere?

We seek healing of the Emerald Isle and its people.
We ask for unity, togetherness, love, and peace.
Hand in hand we have found the courage to move forward.
Once again, we will now walk this great land in the East, South, and West
Like the phoenix rising from the ash
Your children of the soil will once again rise and rebirth the sacred land we call
Montserrat — The Emerald Island of the Caribbean
