He must have heard each word and memory
From those who dared to stand and share
All truths, spread across the breath of his life
Despite the cold, they came from everywhere
They told of his childhood and his youth
Of how he grew from a seed to an oak
Branches providing a wealth of shade
In a lesson, through his character, in a joke
He loved life and he lived it with abandon
From the motorcycle to the white house on the hill
Nothing was too hard or too difficult
For he bent life to service his will
He left footprints in the hearts of thousands
As was evidenced by standing room only
We all came because our hearts bid us come
To share warmth and to show love as a family
Then the time came when he returned home for good
Laid where he can welcome the start of each day
We paid homage in song, laughter and tears
And then we knelt, and we held hands to pray
There was music, there was food, there was dancing
As many stood up to give their own testimony
He said live life to the max and enjoy it
What a man. What a human. What a legacy
