Ontario family law firm Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers will offer free initial consultations during its second “Pro Bono Day” on Friday, March 24 to help expand access to the legal system for Ontario families.

During the annual event, experienced family lawyers will meet over the phone or Zoom to offer complimentary one-on-one sessions with people who want advice on how to handle their family law situations such as divorce or separation.

“Too many families don’t have access to high-quality legal services as they are going through the process of a divorce,” said Alexander. “Our goal with these complimentary consultations is to share answers to some of the most important questions they face so that they can make more informed decisions.”

The firm’s first “Pro Bono Day” event was held in September 2022. Like the Family Law Now Live Virtual Event Series, which the firm holds twice monthly and features a rotating panel of associates and guest speakers, the aim of Pro Bono Day is to promote access to justice and offer the community with educational resources to help guide them through the process of divorce and separation.

Alexander said the consultation sessions were so well-received with both associates and individuals getting advice that the firm decided to continue this initiative.

“Even a single session with lawyer can dramatically improve the outcome of a divorce, separation and other family law matters,” added Alexander. “Our lawyers are able to correct common misconceptions, give people general advice about how to handle a difficult issue or just offer them reassurance that they are on the right path. Our team finds it extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to give back to our community in this way.”
