OLVESTON, Montserrat – October 11, 2019 – Local service organization, the Rotary Club of Montserrat has launched the island’s first business convention aimed at stimulating private sector development.  This event will be held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre on November 23rd 2019 from 9am to 6pm and is intended to inspire potential entrepreneurs to create sustainable start-ups, and encourage established enterprises to explore opportunities in scaling up their business.   “BizCon aims to be an impactful event for growing more sustainable businesses here by looking at global trends with the view of transferring these strategies and adapting them to a uniquely compact market, like Montserrat.

The convention offers opportunities for learning, networking, and business growth,”said Linda Dias, Conference Chairperson.  

 “The Rotary Club of Montserrat is thrilled to launch this event during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November, and we are hoping that it will become a regular occurrence.” 

 BizCon will be a one-day programme incorporating interactive learning sessions covering diverse topics such as Forming a Business, Monetization & E-Commerce, Exploring Regional & International Trade, Customer Relationship Management, and more.  The convention also boasts a business expo with networking opportunities, topical presentations from regional facilitators, round-table discussions, entertainment, and business support opportunities.   The conference is open to entrepreneurs and business professionals from Montserrat and the neighbouring islands. There are three options to participate in BizCon.

  1. Register for a FULL Table or Half Table space to exhibit and sell products and services.
  2. Attend one of the TWO Institutes designed around business development.  INSTITUTE 1will host seminars focused on forming sustainable businesses and will target potential entrepreneurs and new start-ups.  INSTITUTE 2will host symposiums focused on virtual trade and scaling up a business, and is targeted at established enterprises who are interested in expanding their local, regional, or global reach.
  3. Purchase a ticket to explore the expo, network with professionals in a range of industries, and take in the presentations, entertainment, and activities.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Community, Youth, and Sports Services, the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Lands, Housing, & Environment, and the Governor’s Office in Montserrat.  

All proceeds raised from table registration sales and ticket sales go towards Education and Youth projects initiated by the Rotary Club of Montserrat.
