A slight tap on the door I wasn’t sure
Curiosity, why did I answer?
Two dozen roses sent to my name
How can I accept, except be in shame
Wrong address, or change of name is a possibility
The card has a sender I can’t fool anybody
Act annoyed like I’ve been harassed
That is asking for scrutiny, the dye will be cast
With words insinuating a job well done
I’ll have to admit it’s a mistake I’m the wrong one

Two dozen yellow roses now on my kitchen table
An unacceptable story as if it’s a fable
Roses, why not a basic shirt sent to me, so profound
Designed with revenge like a grenade to my compound
Did I get them for saving a life?
Or stepped inside an argument to avoid strife?
Rugged truth has a foothold on perishable lies
Integrity deciphers who smiles and who cries
Retaliation, whether I’m home or not misery is started
Honesty is the enemy it may get me departed
