The Ministry of Health and Social Services is today announcing plans to celebrate its staff throughout the month of May.
May is a significant month for the Health sector as it is during this month that nurses are celebrated internationally for their contributions to health care. The Ministry of Health will however extend the recognition and celebration to all health care providers and social services staff this month.
Permanent Secretary of Health, Ms. Camille Thomas- Gerald stated that “the contribution of staff is invaluable. Particularly in this COVID- 19 era. Our staff remained at post, diligently serving the public at great personal risk and above and beyond the call of duty. We must take the time to publicly recognize and thank them for their efforts.”
The contributions of health staff and the roles they play in protecting the health of the nation and supporting the most vulnerable among us will be highlighted on various media channels, and other forms of recognition.
Minister of Health and Social Services, the Honorable Mr. Charles Kirnon has given the month of activities his full support. “No thank you will ever suffice for the work done. But my hope is that our health care workers from auxiliary staff to health professionals, social services and administrative support all know that their efforts are appreciated and valued. We cannot celebrate the successes gained in the management of COVID-19, without celebrating the frontline workers as it would not have been possible without their momentous effort.”
The public is asked to show their support for health care workers by liking and sharing the online/social media content which will be produced by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and by tuning in to Radio Montserrat (ZJB) where staff will be publicly recognized this month. The first radio message will be a statement by the Minister of Health, Hon. Charles T. Kirnon on Radio Montserrat on International Nurses Day (Tuesday May 12) at approximately 8:00a.m.
