Caribbean Research Center and LIDC Foundation Inc. will host the Leeward Islands Championship Exhibition Debates where the finalists from the Leeward Island Debating Competition (LIDC) will showcase their intellectual and oratorical talents in two debates. The debaters and their coaches hail from the islands of Antigua, St. Maarten, Anguilla and St. Kitts and Nevis.

LIDC is a sub-regional debating competition for community colleges and high school seniors addressing topics of broad public interest on moral, social, economic and political issues. It involves extensive team research, critical thinking and public speaking skills.

Debate #1 moot- "The Caribbean is not doing enough to combat child abuse" - 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, Friday April 8, 2016 in the Founders Auditorium.

Debate #2 moot- "The marginalization of men has led to the breakdown of Caribbean society" 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm, Friday April 8, 2016 in the Edison O. Jackson Auditorium.

Caribbean Research Center is moving to revive the debating tradition here at Medgar Evers College to engage our students in similar intellectual exercises across disciplines. These “must attend” events will bring direct and immediate awareness of future cultural exchange possibilities for MEC students, and will serve as a compelling launching pad for the Carnegie Caribbean Education Enhancement Initiative and an attraction for motivated and talented MEC students.
