A 73-year-old Italian national who has been charged with murdering his 72-year-old ex-wife is to re-appear in court on September 17. Police said that Umberto Schenato, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh, stabbed his estranged wife, Edda Schenato, to death in the parking lot of a supermarket on Monday this week.

A magistrate will later determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence to commit the matter for trial to the High Court.

Schenato, who was remanded into custody, was told he could apply for bail before a High Court judge
