Guacamole is a common ingredient on many menus, whether it is used as a spread, a dip, or an all-purpose dish.

From Taco Tuesday to brunch, there are countless ways to eat the avocado focused dish. And with less than a week to go until National Avocado Day (31st July) and a 800% increase in monthly searches for ‘Guacamole Recipe’, Culinary experts from Chefs Plate have revealed the best way to make the tasty and sometimes spicy condiment.

Alanna Lipson, Lead Recipe Developer at Chefs Plate said “This staple guacamole recipe is quick and simple to prepare, naturally vegan and gluten-free, and always a party favourite.”

  1. Start Ripe and Mash

The key is to use ripe avocados. Avocados that are still firm when you bring them home from the shop should be left at room temperature until they soften. Add them into a large mixing bowl and mash with a fork until they reach your desired consistency. Many prefer their guac slightly chunky!

  1. Get Flavour

Stir in your onions, garlic, tomatoes (if using), lime juice, salt and pepper until combined. For a spicier guac, add chillies slowly until desired degree of heat.

  1. Serve Immediately and Enjoy!

If cooking guacamole a few hours in advance, cover it with plastic wrap and push it down to seal it off from the air. Then serve it up and enjoy!
