The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Special Educational Needs Support Teacher, Primary Education, within the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports.

JOB PURPOSE

To teach the subject at the Primary level so as to help them develop their mental, emotional, social, spiritual, creative and physical abilities in preparation for Secondary Level Education and for contributing positively to the Community.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide instruction in specified subjects mainly to students who require additional help and exceptional students. 
  • Provide appropriate learning experiences to ensure stimulation and motivation to learn; ensure class organisation and immediate surrounding is conducive to learning; review lessons often to ensure that programme is delivered as expected; 
  • Assist with maintaining discipline in class on the school compound; assist with extra curricula activities; assist in the maintenance of hygienic conditions and provide necessary first aid to ensure that children are operating in a healthy environment; communicate with parents/guardians and the wider community on matters related to students.
  • Assist with teacher training in the area of Special Education Needs
  • Assist in the development of appropriate programmes, prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching aids to facilitate effective delivery and achievement of objectives
  • Recommend children to Counsellors and or Psychologists on basis of observation or conversation with student; fostering their social and moral development; 
  • Assist in promoting the welfare and well-being of pupil; liaison with parents regarding pupils' progress; liaison with classroom teachers regarding pupils’ progress
  • Maintaining attendance registers, SEN registers, term reports and other documents prescribed by the Department of Education, report on students’ attendance, behaviour, attainment and progress, assist Head Teacher in recording, determining and maintaining supplies, work materials, furniture etc.; 
  • Provide feedback on curriculum and implement changes or activities as appropriate, appraise self and others, conduct research so as to keep up to date with new intervention in the Special Educational Needs (SEN) area; Conduct investigation and report on results


PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant should possess:-

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Special Education Needs or a related discipline from a recognized university or tertiary institution;
  • A Certificate, Diploma or Associate Degree in Teacher Education from an approved College or University; 
  • Relevant practical experience in the field of Special Education Needs (ten (10) years) with a history of teaching and instruction in this field. 
  • Possess experience in, and be able to utilize a variety of methods and strategies to achieve success 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A recent Police Certificate of Character.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Appointment will be made on a contractual basis in the first instance after which permanent arrangements may be considered.

Basic Salary

R22- R14:    XCD $50,976.00 - $63,648.00 / Year

Contract Gratuity

12.50% of Basic Salary
