The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Governor's Driver, within the Governor's Office.

JOB PURPOSE

To be the personal driver to the Governor, ensuring the Governor is safely transported to and from the office, to meetings and external functions.

When not driving the Governor, to provide transportation, messenger and administrative services for the Governor's Office in an efficient and effective manner and to be part of the overall office delivery, undertaking a number of duties, including radio checks, fleet management and other tasks as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To transport the Governor, members of the Governor's Office, visiting officials and V.I.Ps. in line with set protocols.
  • To manage the Governor's Office vehicle fleet, sole responsibility for the Flag car and management and organisation of the fleet maintenance. Applicants must also demonstrate a good understanding of vehicle maintenance in order to oversee the proper maintenance of vehicles.  
  • To collect and distribute all mails on a daily basis.
  • To carry out other related duties assigned by The Governor or other senior staff;      
  • To monitor and manage the fuel usage of all generators owned by the Governor's office.
  • To manage and test the radio network of the Governor's office.
  • To support the office team including reception duty when needed.
  • As part of the Governor's core team, to represent the office of the Governor in a professional and polite manner and be properly attired at all times.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The candidate must:-

  • Be an experienced driver with at least five years' experience
  • Hold a valid driving licence
  • Have good local knowledge of Montserrat and be able to demonstrate advanced driving skills
  • Have at least two (2) O'Levels
  • Have a clean Police Record
  • Be a resident on Montserrat for at least five (5) years and have good knowledge of the island
  • Maintain complete confidentiality
  • Have good communication, oral, written, and computer skills
  • Be a team player
  • Be physically fit
  • Have a sense of humour
  • Be flexible - able to work evenings and weekends as needed

Previous office experience would be useful but not essential, as training will be provided.

TERMS, CONDITIONS AND DURATION OF ENGAGEMENT

The successful candidate will be required to undertake security clearance (the job offer will be dependent on receipt of this). 

Appointment will be made on a contractual basis for a period of one (1) year with an option to extend for up to 3 years. At the successful completion of the full four year contract, a gratuity of 12.5% of earned salary is payable.

Hours vary and are to meet the needs of the Governor, from collection to work in the morning, meetings, return to residence and frequent evening and sometimes weekend working. Uniform will be provided.

Basic Salary

R33- R29:    XCD $34,812.00 - $40,248.00 / Year

Allowances

Transport - $4,800.00  

Contract Gratuity

12.50% of Basic Salary
