CALGARY, CANADA – January 3, 2019 – On November 3, 2018, WestJet launched its new, non-stop flight service from Calgary to Montego Bay. To mark the occasion, the Jamaica Tourist Board Canada partnered with the Calgary Airport Authority to hold an inaugural event at Calgary International Airport. This new flight will run until April 27, 2019 and make vacations to Jamaica more accessible to persons in Western Canada, who in the past had to rely on stopover flights through Toronto.

“The timing of the flight allows passengers from Western Canada to get to Montego Bay, Jamaica,” said Philip Rose, Regional Director, Jamaica Tourist Board Canada. “It makes travel to the island far more convenient through Calgary and is a fantastic development. We are thrilled.”

For the inaugural flight, travellers at the International WestJet check-in area received special luggage tags and hats to commemorate the milestone. Additionally, they were treated to a true Jamaican send-off with live music from PowerHouze, a Calgary-based reggae band. The airport’s famous White Hat Volunteers were also at the event, where they showcased their unique brand of western hospitality and assisted WestJet’s Montego Bay-bound travellers.

WestJet’s flight WS 2228 will depart from the Calgary International Airport every Saturday at 9:05 a.m., arriving at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport at 5:44p.m. The return flight, WS 2227, will depart Sangster International Airport on Saturdays at 2:20p.m., arriving in Calgary at 7:20 p.m. (all times local)
