The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board congratulates the Vallarta Botanical Garden (www.vbgardens.org) on being named one of the “Top 10 North American Gardens Worth Travelling For” at the 2019 Canadian Garden Tourism Awards, presented at the North American Garden Tourism Conference held November 3-5, 2019, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, under the theme “Taking Garden Tourism to the Next Level.”
Puerto Vallarta's renowned botanical garden is a haven of greenery located about 15 miles south of the city’s historic center. Visitors can spend a day taking hikes around the property, picnicking on its grounds or swimming in the Hoscones River.
Flora enthusiasts will find the garden’s 3,000 plant species intriguing. Visitors will witness such exciting features as the Carnivorous Plant Collection, the beauty of the Rose Garden, the fragile Orchid House, the lush Palm Garden and Tree Fern Grotto, as well as the prized Mexican Agave Gardens, as you walk the Jungle Trails, watching for tropical birds that inhabit the gardens year-round.
The Vallarta Botanical Garden is also a parrot refuge and home to many other bird, reptile and mammal species.
“The Vallarta Botanical Garden is a special place in Puerto Vallarta, and we are lucky to have such an important offering in our city,” said Javier Aranda, Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board. “We congratulate them on this well-deserved honor bestowed by the Canadian Garden Tourism Awards.”
According to Canadian Garden Council, garden tourism can be a significant component of a destination’s tourism offering. More than 25 million people travel annually in North America to see gardens, and the global market of garden visitors exceeds 250 million.
Other gardens on the Top 10 list include (in alphabetical order) Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlanta, Georgia; The Butchart Gardens, Victoria, British Columbia; Chanticleer Garden, Wayne, Pennsylvania; Francisco Javier Clavijero Botanic Garden, Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico; Ganna Walska Lotusland, Montecito, California; Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; Montreal Botanical Garden/Jardin botanique de Montréal, Montréal, Québec; Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, Lethbridge, Alberta; and Red Butte Garden, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the Vallarta Botanical Garden had been included in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice 2019 list of Best Botanical Gardens in North America.
