Tributes continue to pour in from Saint Lucians around the world for "the giant woman of the Saint Lucian social and political landscape," Mrs. Ives Heraldine Rock.

Saint Lucia's Permanent Representative to the OAS Her Excellency Sonia Johnny has expressed praise and honor to the social figure whose active and integral role in the Castries South East constituency served as a platform for achieving the dignity of firsts for women in leadership in Saint Lucia.

Her Excellency says Mrs. Rock was a woman with a deep sense of justice who strived for attaining better rights for women in Saint Lucia. "In fact, it was under her watch that Saint Lucia first established a Women's desk which later catalyzed into a Women's department and Women Affairs Ministry. Ma Rock worked against the grain of ingrained patriarchal attitudes in her party and society sometimes hostile to her agenda as a woman challenging the status quo."

According to Her Excellency the people of Saint Lucia will always remember the female icon for her strength and courage. "Mrs. Heraldine Rock's life undoubtedly made a quantum difference in the lives of so many who were poor, dispossessed, distressed and disempowered. Hers was a life made all the more beautiful in its commitment to national development and service to humanity."

Mrs. Heraldine Rock will be remembered as the remarkable woman of the Caribbean, whose politics was grounded in the beliefs of service and selflessness.
