FIFA leaders are “a bunch of old sons of bitches” and could have imposed sanctions “but certainly not fascist sanctions” complained Uruguay's president Jose Mujica referring to the suspension suffered by Uruguay's scorer Luis Alberto Suárez who was banned for nine matches and with four months of complete football inactivity.

The tape with the expressions from Mujica was released during a radio and television sports program Sunday night in Uruguay's “Sports Hour”. The interview was done by sports' commentator Sergio Gorzy, who travelled from Rio do Janeiro to Montevideo with the Uruguayan national team that on Saturday was knocked out of the World Cup following defeat to Colombia 2-0.

Mujica on Sunday evening was waiting for the players at the arrival gate in Carrasco airport and welcomed each of them and the coach team.

When the welcoming ceremony was over Gorzy approached Mujica and the following dialogue was taped: “What did this World Cup mean for you?”, asked the reporter. “That FIFA are a bunch of old sons of bitches”, replied the Uruguayan president.

Immediately the president put his hand to his mouth and Gorzy asked: “Do I publish it?” and the reply: “yeah publish it for me”.

Gorzy then turned to First Lady and Senator Lucia Topolansky standing next to Mujica and asked: “What's your opinion Lucia?” and she replied, “I fully adhere to the president's words. I support the president's words”, and smiled.

Following and with no questions asked, Mujica faced the television camera and added: “they could have sanctioned, but not fascist sanctions”, referring to the FIFA suspension on Suarez.
