Every August, huge crowds intent on having a fantastic party descend on Pointe Faula, Le Vauclin, on the southeast coast of Martinique, for the annual music festival known as Baccha. Pretty much anything goes (as you might expect) at an event named after the Bacchanalia, the ancient Roman festivals of Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of booze, freedom and fun.

Stages host famous DJs and Caribbean artists, and well-stocked stalls provide colourful cocktails and local delicacies, but the people provide the energy in this two-day extravaganza on the beach. This year’s event runs day and night on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Local, Caribbean and international performers take to the stage to delight the tens of thousands of festivalgoers. Artists include Spice from Jamaica, WereNo1, Maurane Voyer from Martinique, Ridge from Dominica, Skinny Fabulous from Saint Vincent, Kaї from Haiti and Kwakxikolor from Martinique. The latter group was formed from the merger of two popular local groups – Kwak and Taxi-Kreyol - and are pioneers of zouk, a unique French Antillean carnival creation. Once heard, partygoers never stop moving and grooving to the music.

DJs present their own eclectic musical palettes and impressive repertoires, rocking the stage with vibrant energy, that keeps the crowds on their feet. Come and hear Dav’, Killerz, Rimka, Jicypie and Tkrys, and T’Fiish and Fitch, whose explosive mixes and unprecedented vibes are crushing everything in their path. Be warned: prepare for an avalanche of sound!

Between sets, take in the towering coconut palms, the impressive sea view, the sheer joy of people having a good time at the best Caribbean music festival, or chill at an informative workshop. Advance tickets are available at bacchafestival.com.
