Amidst the sobering statistics that Chronic Non-Communicable diseases are now responsible for up to 75% of all deaths in the Caribbean region, a Health Summit has been organized to educate up to 250 people on healthy living practices for the prevention, reversal and control of hypertension, heart disease, respiratory illness, cancer and depression.
The Health Summit will be held under the theme: 'Healthy Living – The Key to CNCD Prevention Reversal & Control of CNCD’s' and will run from August 12th to 19th 2012 at the Hilton hotel in Barbados. Early bird registration prices are available until 31st March 2012. This innovative conference is being organized by the Eastern Caribbean Health Ministry of the Seventh Day Adventist church. For over 100 years the Adventists have been advocating health reform principles to its members and the wider community by extension. These measures include eating a plant based diet with little fat, sugar and salt, the liberal use of water, sunlight, adequate rest and abundance of fresh air, avoiding the use of tobacco, alcohol and other narcotics in all forms, regular physical activity and trust in God as the Greatest Physician of all.
The Health Summit is a full program, which commences daily at 8:00am with exercise and devotion followed by Track 1 seminars from 9:30am to 12:30pm and Track 2 seminars from 1:30pm to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. The course in Nutrition and Vegetarian Cuisine will be held for the entire day on each day. Participants will register for one seminar from each track and lunch will be provided from 12:30 – 1:30pm. The in-depth training received over this duration will equip both health and non-health professionals with increased knowledge, skills and methods to offer preventative and curative methods for many CNCD’s encountered in their respective domains. Ultimately the conference aims to train health leaders and champions to empower the public on healthy living principles and practices. Participants will receive certification at the end of each program. The nature of the conference and crucial information it intends to provide makes it open to all denominations or faith groups.
Additional plenary sessions will be held on Monday 13th through to Thursday 16th August at 7:00- 8:30pm at the Black Rock Church and Ebenezer Seventh–day Adventist Churches to cater to church members and the general public who may not be able to attend the Summit but desire to benefit from information shared during the track sessions.
All the training during the event is being conducted by accredited educational and health institutions, both regionally and internationally. The selection of seminars being offered includes:
Chronic Disease – going beyond just management
Breathe Free – Smoking Cessation
Health and Fitness
NEW START/Natural remedies
Forgiveness and Healing
