Introducing Model Netisha Alie To The World
Category: Fashion Created on Saturday, 21 May 2011 08:09
She was born in the island of Dominica, has lived in Antigua for the past five years, works as a Teacher and is very talented. ENTER...Netisha Alie.
A vibrant and down to earth Caribbean woman, Netisha Alie is a bright "new face" in modelling with an innate spirituality that is a much-needed quality when working in this environment. Netisha is designing her life as a model to work with some of the best photographers and designers around. I believe success will find her because she is a true beauty and a definite class act. Her interest and concern when working with children as a Teacher is a personal success for her. With that combination of class, heart and beauty Netisha can't go wrong.
At MNI Alive, we like to showcase talent hence we thought that Netisha should be given a platform on our global Caribbean portal. We caught up with Netisha to get a closer insight on this rising Caribbean star. See our chat with Netisha below...
MNI Alive: We know that your day job is teaching but today we want to speak more about your modelling career. How is that going so far?
Netisha: So far my modelling career though new, appears to be going quite well. As my experience in the field seems to be ever growing, my love and passion for it does just the same. Hence, I am able to apply myself more and people, designers and photographers alike tend to be recognizing my efforts and are showing interest in having me showcase their talent…which is my ultimate goal.
MNI Alive: What got you interested in modelling?
Netisha: My interest in modelling wasn't one that grew overnight. I've always had a love for dressing 'differently' from the ordinary, walking in 5 inch heels and loved taking pictures doing it all. I saw modelling as a way to showcase others' creativity which in turn would bring me closer to some of the things I enjoyed doing...and of course there was the encouragement from wonderful friends & family who saw it in me from as early an age as 11.
MNI Alive: Is there any reason why you have chosen not to pursue modelling full time, is this something you aspire to do?
Netisha: I have not aspired to pursue it full time yet because of my love for Teaching & working with children for their development. Also, I view it as another stepping stone in my life so I'd much rather gradually get there & do it to the best of my ability instead of rushing it.
MNI Alive: Give us an idea of some of the designers and some of the shows you have modelled for in Antigua or regionally?
Netisha: I have modelled for designers like Calvin S, Jean-Marie Thomas (Ajeante'), Embellish Antigua, Miranda Askie, Shandy Lewis and Kingsley Thorne from Barbados. My first show was The independence Fashion Show. Devotion - a national show held annually in Antigua, the launch of a new model agency called 'Sache' Model Management', Vegas by Calvin S and a few others.
MNI Alive: What has the experience been like?
Netisha: Each show was different and so the experiences varies. From the make-up to the rushing off the runway to change outfits, i'd say is like a roller coaster ride :) Intense adrenaline rush but fun. Preparations got tense at times but my aim for 'perfection' was enough to motivate me to go on. In the end, when the pictures are taken and the designers are pleased then its a mission accomplished for me.
MNI Alive: What are some of the eating and fitness routines you stick to maintain your physique?
Netisha: Eating routines? None really. I eat what I feel like but I am fond of vegetables and try to consume them with almost every meal. I was never a big eater so my eating habits are controlled. My physique is as a result of my being extremely active. I am into sports and play basketball and sometimes volley ball. I also do quite a bit of walking and love to dance.
MNI Alive: Do you find it challenging being a model living in the Caribbean? If so what are some of these challenges?
Netisha: Being a model in the Caribbean so far has its ups & downs. In that the market is not as huge, as opposed to the major territories like Paris & New York. However, I strongly believe that the Caribbean is growing in the fashion industry and that this limitation may not be for much longer.
MNI Alive: Any influences that have helped to guide your modelling career thus far?
Netisha: There are some influences that have guided my modelling career so far. Firstly, my family, my friends and I must mention that Decima Darroux, Mrs. Vanda Neal Gardener & Mr. Rohan Wynter have played a huge role in motivating me. They have been encouraging & inspiring me from the get-go though they may not know it. Calvin S & Jean-marie Thomas have also contributed by pointing out my flaws that could be improved as well as my abilities and potential.
MNI Alive: If you were to choose one of these four fashion capitals in the world which would it be and why? New York, Milan, Paris, London
Netisha: Paris!!!!! Besides the fact that I've always wanted to visit such a city, I am also driven by its 'taste' in fashion. Very exquisite, not that the others are not great. They are all awesome, but I am simply taken by Paris the most.
MNI Alive: So tell us what makes Netisha Alie, the model unique?
Netisha: The model is unique firstly in her attitude. I am open to constructive criticism and very easy to work with since my personality is very down to earth. I am not about myself as a model but rather, showcasing the talent of designers & photographers. I aim to make each piece I model be the best piece ever. Also, I believe that my physique is not the usually petite model type, but more of an 'athletic look' to the fashion world.
MNI Alive: Any closing remarks you would like to give for any aspiring young lady out there reading this who wishes to follow your lead?
Netisha: To any young lady wishing to aspire to any dream they desire, here's a word for you. Anything in life that's worth doing is worth doing WELL. Don't expect handouts but rather put in the labour and reap the harvest. Anything you wish to do is yours once you trust in God, believe in yourself, set your mind to get it & stop only when you've achieved it.
