What Does A Kiss Communicate?

What does a kiss communicate? The answer varies among couples. We’ve been taught to believe that a kiss is some magical expression of love and affection. However, many have been fooled by a kiss, or lead astray by a kiss. For example, Judas gave Jesus a kiss of death before the dirty deed. Admit it, kisses are overrated.

In fairytales, the day is always saved with a kiss. People are brought back to life, spells are broken, and everyone rides off into happily ever after. Yeah. Ok. For those who have seen Fatal Attraction, the kitchen sink kissing scene between Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) and Alex Forrest (Glen Close) was a clear giveaway that we were dealing with two psychopaths. As much as Alex thought Dan was her prince charming, there was no chance of a happy ending. Take heed, when seemingly good kisses go bad things could get bloody or deadly.

Kisses are deceptive and confusing, but no matter how deceptive they may be, in the romantic realm, there are a few we patiently anticipate. It’s up to each individual to read between the kisses and figure out what the kisses mean.

The First Kiss
Kissing releases oxytocin, endorphins and dopamine. These hormones make us feel good. If time doesn’t stand still the first time the love of your life plants his lips on yours, that’s not the love of your life. Some researchers believe that the first kiss can make or break the possibilities of a future relationship. According to researchers, kissing might be an assessment of compatibility on a subconscious level. Professor Gordon G. Gallup, Jr. of the State University of New York Albany states that, “At the moment of the kiss, there are hard-wired mechanisms that assess health, reproductive status and genetic compatibility.”

What it should mean: Your partner really likes you a lot, and wants to get serious.
What it could mean: Your partner just wants to hump you.

The French Kiss
There’s something sexy about swapping saliva with the man of your dreams. The tongue is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, and one of the strongest muscles for its size. If strength and sensitivity doesn’t exude passion, I don’t know what does. The great thing about a French kiss is that you can’t get one without giving one. It places us in the personal space of another, and is often the prelude to a romp between the sheets, or any other room of choice. Exfoliate your lips with brown sugar, honey and jojoba oil and pucker up.

What it should mean: You’re relationship is going down the road to commitment.
What it could mean: You’re in a friend with benefits situation.

The Other French Kiss
In Ayurveda, (Ayu means life or daily living and veda means knowing), the penis or clitoris is termed the lower tongue. What goes with a tongue better than another tongue? Ayurvedic principles don’t encourage oral sex, but it should. Some theologians believe that Songs of Solomon makes positive reference to oral sex, and that’s good enough for me. Plus, It’s fully embracing one’s partner; it’s a great facial workout, and the lips are 100 times more sensitive than the fingers. Need I say more?

What it should mean: You’re in a wholesome, committed, monogamous relationship.
What it could mean: Your partner is a nasty freak.

Kisses could mean anything, everything, or nothing at all. We just need to make sure the kisses we give convey our true intentions, aren’t misleading, and not going beyond the boundaries of the type of relationship we wish to foster.

I’m a firm believer that we should be intimate in a responsible manner. Although I’m also a firm believer that some things are appropriate only within the context of marriage, I’m completely open to healthy dialogue on sex and intimacy. Kisses.
