The United States is stepping up security ahead of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Officials in the US have warned of a specific, credible threat, that can likely take place in either New York or Washington DC. Both these locations were the scenes of attacks by terrorists on the United States 10 years ago. On Sunday, President Obama and Former President Bush are both expected to be at Ground Zero for a service to mark the loss of lives in the destruction of the Twin Towers.
The threats of a possible attack to mark the 9/11 anniversary was garnered from intelligence gathered in Pakistan during the raid to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Additional security measures, according to Mayor Bloomberg, will also include bag checks.Mayor Bloomberg also went on to state in his press conference that there would be an additional police presence in and around New York
Janice Fedarcyk, who is the FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the New York also told the media recently, "Al-Qaeda has shown an interest in important dates and anniversaries. In this instance it is accurate that there is credible, specific but unconfirmed information."
