Increase In Murders In Jamaica For First Quarter Of 2012

Statistics recently released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force this week have shown that murders and simple larceny have increased.
Murder figures recorded for the first quarter of 2012 show an increase of 12 per cent when compared to figures for the corresponding period last year.
There were 272 murders recorded for the first quarter of 2012, as opposed to 242 for the corresponding period last year.
There was a reduction in reported cases of rape, robberies, shootings, sexual assaults and break-in offences.
The number of rape cases reflected a 24% decline, while carnal abuse cases have reflected a significant reduction of 51 per cent.
For the same period under review, 138 guns were seized, compared with 122 for the corresponding period last year.
