Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, facing growing discontent within his ruling New Democratic Congress (NDC), on Thursday night named a parliamentary outsider to be the island's tourism minister, replacing Peter David who resigned on Monday.
Dr. George Vincent, a tourism and small business consultant, is to be appointed to the Senate as the new Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture, said Thomas in a national broadcast.
“Dr. Vincent brings to the position the requisite knowledge, experience, respect and track record to effectively perform the requirements of that position. I wish to welcome him graciously into our cabinet and look forward to a harmonious and collaborative relationship in the continued service of our country,” Thomas said.
David’s junior in the ministry, Arley Gill, whose senate appointment was revoked on Wednesday has been appointed to be the ambassador-ranked Special Envoy on Ocean Governance.
Thomas said Ambassador Gill’s first task would be to work on settling the delimitation of the Windward Island’s maritime boundaries.
“This is an area in which he has some expertise and keen interest," the prime minister said.
